Eco products for servers and PCs

Servers and PCs require a larger memory capacity and increased operating speed to meet rising performance demands. At the same time, DRAMs must meet more demanding specifications for reduced power consumption. Elpida Memory has introduced an advanced 70-nm process that enables the company to provide higher speed, reduced power consumption, and smaller package size. Our extensive range of products meets the requirements of a wide range of computer types, from servers to notebook PCs.

Achieving high-capacity DIMM with high-speed operation and low power consumption

Our 1-Gb and 512-Mb DDR2 SDRAM made by using the 70-nm process deliver advantages, including smaller chip size and optimized design for reduced charge and discharge currents. Their power consumption is only 60% of that of equivalent 90-nm process products, and they attain a high operating speed of 667 Mbps.
In addition, the smaller chip size of the 70-nm 1-Gb DDR2 SDRAM enables an FBGA package with an area less than 70% that of equivalent conventional products. This allows highly efficient high-density mounting and makes it easier to achieve products with both high memory capacity and compact size.

The photos at right compare the operating temperature of two 2-Gbyte SO-DIMMs, each of which has 16 1-Gb DDR2 SDRAM mounted on it. The one employing the 70-nm process runs about 10°C cooler than the one with conventional 90-nm process products. This illustrates how Elpida's low-power DRAM can contribute to more efficient system cooling and improved battery life in products such as notebook PCs.

Product Introduction

2-Gbyte DDR2 SO-DIMM

1-Gb DDR2 SDRAM using 70-nm process

Notebook PCs have only a limited amount of space for installing memory, and extended battery life is required. Our 2-Gbyte DDR2 SODIMMs form the ideal product for mounting a large amount of memory of compact size.

Elpida uses a 70-nm process to mass produce 1-Gb DDR2 SDRAM to achieve higherspeed operation, lower power consumption, and more compact size. The package size is equivalent to that of the 512-Mb products of a few years ago, but the speed and power efficiency are superior.
