Boosting front-end process productivity with the latest environmentally conscious technology
At Hiroshima Elpida Memory, the front-end manufacturing process facility of Elpida Memory, we are using the world's most advanced technology to achieve a plant where DRAM can be produced at the lowest cost. At present, environmental considerations have priority on the main 300-mm line. At this state of-the-art facility, large-scale CGS and efforts to reduce waste to zero are joined by the most up-to-date technology for reducing consumption of energy and resources.
At Hiroshima Elpida Memory, the production department plays the leading role in efforts to improve productivity. Related departments, such as the engineering department, provide comprehensive backup for the production lines. All related departments of the company thus work together as a team to boost productivity. The development and engineering departments at Elpida Memory collaborate to achieve the high yields essential to reducing semiconductor production costs. For example, the 70-nm process that began December, 2006 had already achieved yield levels close to those of the current 90-nm process by March of this year.

The ideal setting in an international academic research city
Hiroshima Elpida Memory is located in the Yoshikawa district of the city of Higashi-Hiroshima, which is well known as a center of both Japanese sake brewing and international academic research. The plant complex is about 20 minutes by car from JR Saijo Station and Higashi-Hiroshima Station on the Shinkansen (bullet train) line. Surrounded by lush greenery, this facility aims to be an "eco factory" that truly harmonizes with its environment.

Akita Elpida Memory
A new company that develops back-end process technology and produces state-ofthe-art packages
Akita Elpida Memory is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Elpida Memory. This new company was established to develop the latest back-end process technology and produce state-of-the-art packages.
Akita Elpida Memory has taken over the back-end process operations of Akita Electronics Systems Co., Ltd., and Akita Semiconductor Co., Ltd. It inherits the high-level technical capabilities and manufacturing expertise of these two companies. As the Elpida Memory Group's base for development and design, assembly, and testing of advanced and special packages, mainly for DRAM devices, it fulfills a very important mission.
The establishment of the new company adds state-of-the-art back-end process technology to the established front-end process technology already possessed by Elpida Memory. It enables us to provide total solutions to an even wider range of customers. In addition, Akita Elpida Memory undertakes the manufacturing of logic products on a contract basis.
