Business overview

The price of DRAMs changed significantly in FY2006 in line with a significant balance shift in the DRAM market. The Elpida Memory Group has worked to expand production capacity through facilities investment and to raise productivity through the application of finer pitch processes as well as to improve the yield, and in so doing has achieved major production gains and cost reductions.
Processing capacity for 300-mm wafers exceeded initial targets, reaching 78,000 wafers per month in March 2007. Sales of products for server applications, digital consumer electronics, and mobile applications, which require high-level technology, have greatly increased. Sales of products for PC applications have also increased as a result of procurement from overseas contract manufacturers.
In FY2006 we successfully launched mass production of DRAMs using the world's first 70 nm process, demonstrating that the Elpida Memory Group is the world leader in this technology. In FY2007 we will further increase the production ratio of 70-nm process products, and also plan to increase processing capacity for 300-mm wafers to 85,000 wafers per month. Adopting such state-of-the-art process technology is enabling us both to improve DRAM performance (data transfer rate) and to achieve a significant reduction in operating current.

Environmental issues and targets

How to make devices highly functional while reducing the energy they use is an issue when developing eco-products (products that benefit the environment). Elpida's high-density integration and energy-saving technology are compatible with society's demands to reduce the burden on the environment, and offer important technologies for building a sustainable, energy-saving society for the 21st century. The Elpida Memory Group is aiming to attain world-class technical capabilities in this field.
In addition to manufacturing such eco-products, achieving high production efficiency and resource productivity are vital to raising our corporate value in environmental terms, as is minimizing our environmental impact. We regard these as our corporate social responsibility with respect to the environment.
For this purpose, the entire staff of the Elpida Memory Group must possess a high level of environmental awareness in the performance of their duties in every area, from development, design, production, and procurement, to sales.
Not content with attaining world-class technical capabilities, Elpida is also pressing ahead with setting environmental targets to establish our brand image as the environmentally friendly company described above.
