Energy, resource, and waste management
Effective use of resources
Energy and water resource consumption rose 2% year-on-year, reversing a declining trend that had continued uninterrupted since FY2007. The principal cause for this change was facility expansion associated with changes made to the production mix at the Hiroshima Plant. Unusually hot summer weather also affected resource use.
Chemical use continued to decline since peaking in FY2007 due to the continuation of efforts to optimize use.
Resource recycling
Total volume of unneeded materials fell 4% year-on-year, and Elpida is working to increase in-house recycling and to reuse materials efficiently. Industrial waste fell 13% from the previous year. Following the lead of the Hiroshima Plant and Akita Elpida Memory, the Development Center boosted efforts to sell targeted waste products.
Thanks to continued efforts to pursue the goal of zero-emissions, the recycling rate reached 99.9%.
